A snore recorder listens while you sleep and keeps the parts where you snored, so you can hear it, count it, and see whether anything you try makes a difference. There are dozens on the app stores. These six are the ones worth your time, ranked by what they are best at rather than by who paid us, because nobody did. We make one of them and say so.
Ratings are from the US App Store on September 16, 2026. All six are free to download with paid tiers.
SnoreLab — best track record
4.7 stars, about 57,000 ratings. The most established snore app, with more than 50 million nights recorded. Gives a Snore Score, tracks remedies and lifestyle factors against it, and adds BreathFlow, a breathing-stability index correlated with apnea severity. Where it falls short: the free tier saves 20 audio samples a night; full-night recording is Premium. Cloud backup means audio can live off your phone. Full comparison: SoundSleep vs SnoreLab.
SoundSleep — best for hearing everything, not just snoring
New in 2026, few ratings yet. Ours. Records the whole night free with no sample cap, and classifies each sound before scoring it: snoring, sleep talking, coughing, heavy breathing, and room noise like dogs and traffic each get their own clips and labels. A published 0–100 score formula, ON/OFF remedy experiments, share-as-video, and everything stays on the phone. Where it falls short: no breathing-stability index, no remedy shop, and a short track record. Playing every clip is Pro; free gets one preview clip a night. Details on the facts page.
Noxogy — best all-in-one sleep tracker with snoring
4.5 stars, about 13,000 ratings. A full sleep tracker that estimates stages and also records snoring and talking, with a smart alarm and stop-snoring tools. Where it falls short: it is a tracker first; if you only care about snoring, the sound features are a smaller part of a bigger app.
Sleep Cycle — best if you want a smart alarm too
4.7 stars, about 29,000 ratings. A sound-based sleep tracker with snore detection, a smart alarm that wakes you in light sleep, and an AI sleep coach. Where it falls short: snoring is one signal among many, and the emphasis is on sleep quality and waking up, not on hearing your own snoring.
Sleep Talk Recorder — best for sleep talking only
4.3 stars, about 2,700 ratings. Does one thing: catches you talking in your sleep, and has a public top list of shared clips. More than six million people have tried it. Where it falls short: it is not a snore tracker and does not score your night.
Do I Snore or Grind — best for teeth grinding
3.7 stars, about 200 ratings. Records both snoring and teeth grinding and lets you listen in the morning. Made by a company that also sells anti-snoring products. Where it falls short: a lower rating and a smaller feature set than the others.
How to choose
- Want the safest default with the most history? SnoreLab.
- Want the full night recorded free and every sound separated, including sleep talking, with nothing uploaded? SoundSleep.
- Want sleep stages, a smart alarm, and snoring in one app? Noxogy or Sleep Cycle.
- Only care about what you say at night? Sleep Talk Recorder.
- Grind your teeth? Do I Snore or Grind.
Whichever you pick, give it three nights before judging, put the phone on the nightstand rather than under the pillow, and read how to record yourself snoring so the first night is not wasted. And remember that none of these diagnose anything; here is what an app can and cannot tell you.
Common questions
What is the best app to record snoring?
SnoreLab is the most established, with a 4.7 rating from about 57,000 reviews. SoundSleep records the full night free without a sample cap and separates snoring from sleep talking and room noise with clips for each. Noxogy and Sleep Cycle add sleep stages and a smart alarm.
Are snore recorder apps free?
All the main ones are free to download. SnoreLab's free tier saves 20 samples a night; SoundSleep records and scores the whole night free and charges for playing every clip, trends and reports.
Which snoring app keeps recordings private?
SoundSleep analyses and stores audio on the phone with no account and no upload. SnoreLab offers cloud backup, which stores data off the device.
Can a snoring app detect sleep apnea?
No app can diagnose sleep apnea. SnoreLab's BreathFlow estimates breathing stability, and SoundSleep records heavy breathing and pauses as events, but a diagnosis requires a sleep study.
